Wave 3

In the book "The Left Hand Of Darkness", the Getherin people tell us that in the culture they live in they are only able to Kemmer once in there life. In the world they live in, it is not acceptable for two siblings to kemmer. Committing suicide is a big deal and this leads to banishment. Gethren is a perfect example of someone who went through this. This folktale relates to Estraven because in the beginning of the book, Estraven left Karhide. Estraven tells us that he's kemmered before to one of his siblings, but he passed away. This is a folktale because the siblings kemmered and this teaches a lesson. In their culture it's ok for brothers to kemmer together and in our society it is frowned upon. Yet, even in their culture it's frowned upon if two siblings get married , just like in ours. It gives us a view to a different society.
