Being a bystander to trolling

Trolling is just about anywhere on the Internet now in this era we live in.  Some people are targeted more than others but in a sense it can harmful to anyone.  I know I'm not the only one who sees trolls do their thing and just watch the attacks.  I knew if I went after the troll I'd just be doing what he wants.  However, there were times where trolls were attacking me where I just wanted to really give them my perspective and show that person how it would feel to be attacked on.  But just like Lindy West, I just brushed it aside and moved on.  In Lindy West's scenario where there were constant attacks on her, I believe there should be someone if not her to stand up against the troll.  The frequent attacks may have a negative effect in the mind of the victim.  I'm sure there's more people like me who just sees it all and just ignores it all.  I can never find the right thing to say to make the attacks stop if there are any words I can say.  It's so easy to troll someone since there's so many ways  to stay anonymous that I don't think we will ever escape seeing it happen.  Sadly I have learned to just let it go whether it's against me or if I see it happen to someone else.

  1. Sadly, trolling is part of this era and its going to expand further on in many generations to come. This is because, people are going to find the satisfaction and bravado needed to hide behind a screen and completely antagonize a person for their appearance, thoughts, etc. I feel that more people should start to ignore these brutal trolls, because I personally know that words hurt. I also acknowledge the fact that everyone is different and with some people ignoring such comments may come as a challenge. In all honestly trolls are just people who want to bring up their self esteem by putting others down.

  2. When I read your post, I started thinking about whether or not sarcasm is also a form of bullying. In a way, wouldn't you think trolling is like being sarcastic to someone? It's hard to help the people are attacked by trolls because it happens so frequently. Since whatever the troll says always seem to bring down a person's self-esteem, I don't know how to help them at times.
I disagree with what you say about how easy it is to troll someone because there are so may ways to be anonymous. It actually isn't that hard to not troll someone. You still have to type out the hurtful words and actually send it. There's still time to not send that hateful message toward another person.
