Online trolling is a problem. Trolling a lot of the time is done by people who are just seeking attention. These same people are capable of being anonymous on the internet and they are using it to their advantage. In my mind, trolls are people who are just looking for something to get a quick laugh on and get some attention. Some people would say that trolls are the same thing as cyber bullies, however, I say that they are two different things. I think that trolls are just looking to make pointless arguments with people to get attention while cyber bullies strategically choose their victims based on the fact that they know the victim personally and use the internet as a way of exposing personal and hurtful things about their victims. Both trolls and cyber bullies are what make the internet a scary place and the fact that you may never even know who is on the other side of the screen is even scarier. Anonymity can be a good thing though. Being anonymous on the internet can give you the ability to vent on a blog without people knowing who you truly are. Being anonymous can also help with people who write hard hitting news because it can keep them safe. Being anonymous can either be good or bad, it is just up to how you want to use this powerful tool.
I came back to edit my post, ended up having to retype it because I messed up the formatting. ;_;
ReplyDeleteI came across your post and I am glad I was able to read yours. I asked this question in my own blog post, and reading yours has given me some more insights upon the difference of "trolling" and "cuber bullying". I haven't distinguished between the methods of a "troll" and the methods of a "cyber bully", so you have partially answered that for me. Thank you.
I also believe that most trolls are "seeking for attention". They do these things for their own amusement as well as entertaining those who actually enjoy watching these situations.
Anonymity is both a gift, and a curse.
*cyber* Ahaha. Darn typos.
