Current Mindset

Before this year in ERW, my knowledge of the food industry was very minimal. I thought what I knew about food was enough to keep me living a healthy life, however, now I know I was wrong. I now have a new perspective on what junk food really is and what it is really made of. The thought of these things didn’t really seem important back then because I was never informed on the cruelty involving the food system. Being more cautious of what I eat has not only started to take place in my life but I hope it continues in the long run. It is so easy to be deceived into what we consume so for this reason, it is very important to be aware. The way the government works plays a large role into this food issue as well. I never really realized how selfish the government was and continues to be. This leads to companies being only interested in the profit they make more so than the health of their customers. In a way, I have always been a little bit confused on why that is because the workers/owners of these companies are consumers themselves, so wouldn’t they want what is best for everyone? This unit has lead me to be more mindful of my surroundings.

  1. You would think companies would care about the food they're producing since they're also part of the group of consumers. I also was not aware of all the diseases that our food is able to have. I find it scary how easily our food could get contaminated and how the government acts like if it's not a big deal. The government needs to take ownership for their actions and fix the major problems in our food system.
