Anonymity is Necessary

On the internet I think anonymity is necessary. Anonymity has plenty of benefits that contributes to the internet. People can seek help anonymously without being judged for who they are. Their audience has no information of who they are except for the information they give their audience. Anyone can receive help anonymously no matter what the situation is. Additionally, there are problems that only anonymity can solve. For example if you are in a country that has hardcore censorship, you won't be able to speak out if it isn't anonymous. Anonymity allows people to have no punishment so they are able to speak freely without worrying about what they are going to say. They will get true feedback from an (also anonymous) audience that gives a variety of different perspectives on the subject. Anonymity has always been part of the internet, and there isn't any reason to remove anonymity completely. Being anonymous on the internet is definitely something that should stay on the internet. Some people do abuse the fact that there is anonymity on the internet; however, the fact that people can still benefit off of anonymity means that anonymity should be permanently on the internet.

Are there any reasons that anonymity should not be allowed besides trolls?

  1. I completely agree with this. I feel like anonymity get's blamed for the immoral behavior of others. The reason behind trolling is not because of the fact they are anonymous, it's because they are simply bad people. As you stated, anonymity is a necessity in our lives and there is no need for the removal of it.
