We Need Anonymity
Today in class when Ms. Fletcher shared the quote, "Pages on Facebook are allowed to be anonymous. That is really important. People start revolutions; we need anonymity" by Sheryl Sandberg, it made me realize that we do need it. Lately I feel like we have been learning to see anonymity in a negative perspective. However, being anonymous can be very helpful in many ways. For example, some people won't share certain things or ask certain questions unless they are viewed as anonymous. Ms. Fletcher pointed out how during the process of learning about sexual content in health, we were able to ask anonymous questions about anything we were curious about. This made it easier for anyone to ask whatever they wanted because no one would ever know who asked the question. These sorts of situations play out in many different ways every day. The only problem about anonymity is that some people take advantage of it, sometimes going to a full extent. This problem ends up ruining the whole outlook of being anonymous. People will always have a reason to see anonymity as something dangerous but in reality, the world needs at least some anonymity. Of course being anonymous can lead to major problems, but no anonymity can lead to major problems as well.
