Reading all these articles have helped me form my opinion on anonymous users online. For me, anonymity can be a good thing. It assists the readers on not making biases and opinions based on who the writer is but on what they wrote instead. In "Don't Identify by Names Online But by Knowledge" by Annemarie Dooling, she makes a good point when she talks about, "The smart ones are already verifying the knowledge and background of their users to elevate informed conversations, allowing spam and nonsense to sink to the bottom". I think it's more important to look at what people are saying instead of who they are. The problem people are having with these anonymous users are when they use harsh words to break people down at some of their most intense times in life. It is then not a problem with anonymity but with society.
Also anonymity can be good for those who are more reserved. It helps them share their voice about what their beliefs/advice/opinions are online without the fear of being known. For example if someone were to live in a country where they could not publicly declare their faith because another religion is forced upon them, they can still fellowship with those online without their government finding out who they are. Society has overlooked the benefits of being anonymous and has only put the spotlight on the anonymous users who are looked at as "trolls" for destroying the self-esteem of others.
