The way children eat is very important. It is a parents job to teach their children proper eating habits. Once children go to school, I believe the way children eat changes.
I remember going to elementary school and having my mom make me lunches but on Fridays I would buy pizza at school. The lunch my mom made for me had a water, some sort of sandwich (PB&J or Ham and Turkey), a fruit, chips, and a little fruit snack baggy. The lunch served at school included either milk or juice and whatever was listed on the monthly calendar handed out.
The food at school is not at all healthy, is not enough for a child to be full, and overpriced.
I'm not sure if this is one hundred percent accurate but I saw on social media a picture of lunches served around the world. The lunches shown in the picture included greens, meat, a drink, and another side of food. If schools served full meals, then students would learn to eat better and become more interested in food.
I think schools need to make a plan to improve their lunches. If money is an issue then schools can have a year long calendar go out to the families of the students and the parents can choose what days they want their children to eat at school. The parents would have to pay for the school lunches ahead of time but this ensures the school money to provide for these healthier lunches.
I agree I believe government should start an initiative for healthier eating with better meals prepared by schools ,its a great place to get the message to people from a young age, the only issue is raising enough concern to make a public policy issue which I don't think will happen till society realizes the sky rocketing numbers of diabetes and obesity is having a tremendous negative affect.
