Genetically Modified Organisms

GMO's
The state of Vermont is the first state to physically act on requiring genetically modified food to be labeled.  If the law were to be passed by congress, the food industry would have a problem.  Most likely they would have to provide separate packaging for the state.  Think about it though.  Why would the food industry go through the trouble of separately packaging genetically modified foods to send to Vermont?  Why wouldn't they just label all their products to make it easier on themselves?  Food industry's claim that GMOs are safe; that being said, It appears that they will stop at nothing to hide genetically modified foods.  The food industry won't even compromise with labeling advocates.  It's scary to think that 75-80 percent of our foods are genetically modified and we don't even know which foods they are.  The FDA may claim that GMOs are safe, but the truth is we haven't been eating this way long enough to determine the long term effects of GMOs.  We may think they're safe but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are.  It's like back in the day when everyone smoked because they didn't know the long term effects of tobacco.  Tobacco industries failed to know that their products were unhealthy and caused serious health problems such as cancer.  We haven't been eating this way long enough to know how it really affects our health.  Even Campbell's has joined the bandwagon of advocates of food labeling.  A company that openly admits to using GMOs believes that their product should be required to be labeled.  That should tell the food industry something.
