Recycled Food

I decided to watch Ted Talk videos to help me choose a research question and I came across a video about a woman talking about how we waste food. I didn't realize we wasted an incredulous amount of food until she pointed it out.

There have been times where my mom cooks a meal and we end up having leftovers. Sometimes the leftovers go uneaten so, they just sit in my refrigerator until the time comes to throw it out. Instead of letting the food go to waste, someone in my house could take it to work or school the next day and eat it for lunch. Or we could just save the food for the next day and eat it for dinner.
People usually don't eat leftovers because it doesn't taste the same, people don't want to eat the same thing two days in a row, or they simply think leftover food is overall disgusting.
I think that if you spent the money on the food then you might as well eat it and get your moneys worth.

Just think of all of the restaurants that throw away the leftover food at the end of the night....
I think we should have the restaurants donate the leftover food to a local food bank for families to go and eat at. I believe that there are ways to fix the issues with food in this world.

  1. I have noticed this issue as well! Almost every time my dad makes dinner, there are leftovers. The less considerate thing to do is to obviously throw it away, but I agree that we should "recycle" these meals. I always feel a bit guilty throwing something away that I could have ate, relating to the fact that this would be extremely helpful to those in need. Once, my friend's church received bread that was from Panera and ended up being put into great use. It was nice to see this action resulting in feeding those who were hungry.
