There are tons of food being wasted while there are developing countries who don't receive proper food nutrition. Our population is expected to grow in the coming years, and if we can't feed the people who already don't have enough food we won't have enough to supply for the expected population. Leftover food in restaurants is a main contributor because every day they throw away some food that was left over. Even at home we have leftover food that we don't always eat. That food will get thrown out instead of eating. We probably think that it's not good enough to be eaten or it just simply sits there forgotten. If we can somehow redirect all the food that is usually wasted to the homeless or to countries that never really receives enough we could be decreasing the global food waste and world hunger.
America has twice as enough food than it needs and most of it goes through the restaurants. Because they go through these establishments, by the end of the day an incredible amount of food will be thrown out. This is a daily process that takes place all year. Also, some of the food that can be fed to the people that is farmed is fed to the livestock. Redirecting the food that they eat to us is also a way to minimize the food waste and it will lead to more people having food. Starting with the grocery store would be a good place to start. Sometimes people buy more food than what they need and they never end up using it. Minimizing the food bought to what's only necessary is also a start to a solution. This problem will never go away as long as this system continues.
