Why has our country become so physically unhealthy over the years? People blame the price of fast food, because of how cheap it is. But in reality it is the own persons fault for purchasing and consuming the food that they buy from a fast food establishment. The reason for people buying the cheap food from a fast food establishment is probably because the healthy food at the market is way to expensive or the person just doesn't want to cook and they end up at a fast food drive thru ordering food. The food that we consume at a fast food restaurant is genetically modified to taste good. A survey was administered by Clear Voice Research for people to answer online. It had questions saying that if the individuals, parents, farmers, food manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants, and government policies were to blame for the obesity that is happening in the United States. Researchers were surprised with the results that they got back. The question were answered by clicking either primarily to blame, somewhat to blame, or not to blame for obesity. The results came back as 94% of people believed individuals are primarily or somewhat to blame for the rise in obesity, and the result that took second was parents coming in second at 91% primarily or somewhat to blame. Only probably 10 or 15 percent of people blamed the government for the obesity problem in America. I feel that people just buy fast food because they think it taste good and it is affordable for them to buy, then them going to the grocery store and buying things to make food. People in this country need to stop being lazy and cook for themselves or just go out and exercise to keep being healthy or to become healthy.

I don't think people are all to blame when it comes to obesity. I mean I know no one is forcing them to buy this or that, but growing up in America you are basically taught to want the unhealthy foods or fast foods, because they equate to this momentary happiness. They have been marketed to have this effect, especially in children. I think people are starting to become more active and make better food choices now though, which is good and I think we are eventually going to make progress in the way we eat and become more informed and interested in food. Hopefully, we can also find solutions or alternatives to the whole fast food for low income families situation and make healthy food more accessible and affordable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that people are to blame for obesity because we are lazy and don't want to cook and turn to fast food for its convenience. We do have the choice to eat healthier or make our own food. People blame turning to fast food on food prices at the store being too high but in reality we're spending more money at the fast food establishments. We buy combos and we choose to supersize them which, last time I checked, costs more money.
